Here’s a sneak peak at an upcoming eBook by Katherine Gordy Levine:
As many have said, and as Ralph Waldo Emerson is thought to have said first, “The journey is the destination.”
We should not postpone the joy of the now for a distant goal. Still, goals matter, and having the right goal increases the odds you will get where you want to go. Many of us don’t put much thought into setting goals. We might speak of wanting to do this or that, but far too many don’t take goal setting seriously.
Take planning a vacation as an example. That is one area where people make careful plans. Most of us want to enjoy our vacations and we are highly motivated to plan them carefully. We plan where we want to go, how we are going to get there, and what we will do when we arrive. Too often, however, many of us plan diligently for our 14 days of vacation, but not for the remaining 351 days of the year.
As Denis Waitley, noted American productivity coach, points out, “The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don’t define them, learn about them, or even seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.”
Setting the right goals keeps you in charge. The more carefully you set your goals the greater the possibility that at the end of your life you will be able to say “I did it my way” as opposed to asking “Is that all there is?”
Doing it your way, however, means more than pursuing personal goals. Ask people at the end of their lives what mattered most and two answers shine through. First, family; and then making a difference. By making a difference most people mean making the world better.
What you’re reading is an Emotional Fitness Training® program eBook and in some ways the most important one in the series. Why? Because the exercises in this eBook set the tone for the reader’s life, and that is The Mission.
